B.A. IN HISTORY WITH CONCENTRATION IN DIGITAL HISTORY

Digital History allows students to follow and present a historical argument using media technologies and tools such as digitization, podcasts, blogs, database searches, text analysis, data visualization, mapping, digital scholarship and publishing, and digital pedagogy. The Digital History Concentration provides students the skills necessary for developing Digital History research and teaching projects while also teaching them the skills necessary to apply historical methods to critically evaluate sources and arguments. Digital History is part public history since it seeks to bring academic scholarship to a wider audience through digital methods and new technologies. This is a core growth area in the profession, and students will develop marketable, transferrable skills upon completion of the Concentration.

Requirements for Concentration:

HIST1106 United States History Since 1877 (H)
HIST1107 African History: Themes (H)
HIST1108 World History to 1500 (H)
HIST1109 Modern World History (H)
HIST1111 An Introduction to East Asian History
HIST1114 Creating the Atlantic World

Required Core Courses:

IDDS1000 Digital Citizenship – or – IDDS Introduction to Programming
HIST2101 Introduction to Digital History
HIST2701 Historical Methods and Research
HIST4000 Senior Seminar

Three other History courses, at least two must be at 3000-level
ART3402 Interactive Design – or – ART3431 Motion Graphics and Digital Animation
HIST4194 Internship
